The Quiet Site
AUTHOR: Ryan Blackburn
This project was carried out at the well know Quiet Site at Matterdale End, a stones through away from Lake Ullswater. I was asked to produce double oak doors which lead into the bar area, surrounded with a bespoke special map of the local area. An industrial door was required for the delivery entrance opening, so a very substational oak door and casing was produced.
The next commissioning was the shopping area. Handmade units for the "Zero Waste Shop", which stretched over 10 meters, all with shelves set at heights to suit fixtures. LED lighting was concealed behind shelf lippings, chalk board strips were produced.
Another highlight on this job was to produce the large open reception area desk and surronding window cills. A trip to my timber merchants to hand select planks from a 5 meter wayney edged european oak tree for this commisisioning, , increasing colour match and selecting quartersawn planks (which also increases stability).
The planks were all cut, machined, jointed and shaped using taken templates curved and sanded ready for assembling in my workshop Down stands were then fitted to give thickness to specification and allowed a lip for LED lights to sit behind and light the fantastic stone work. Danish oil was applied to finish.
